Compatibility issues[]
When Maya 2009 and Maya 6.0 are installed there are 2 issues that can be faced:
- Licensing - both applications search for the same file on the same place.
- Heroes V Map editor integration - Heroes V Map editor can be integrated with Maya 6.0 but if both Maya's are installed it may choose to work with Maya 2009 which will cause issues during some export/import operations.
This guide aims to provide steps on how to mitigate both issues while having both Maya's installed.
Workaround[]
- Maya 2009:
- Install it and apply the license (it is installed as C:\FlexLM\aw.dat file)
- Start Maya 2009 to see all is working right
- copy the aw.dat as Maya2009_aw.dat and store it somewhere safe.
- Remove C:\FlexLM\aw.dat file
- Maya 6.0:
- Install it and apply the license (it is installed as C:\FlexLM\aw.dat file)
- Start Maya 2009 to see all is working right
- copy the aw.dat as Maya60_aw.dat and store it somewhere safe
- Remove Maya 2009 registry and paths:
- Go to Maya 2009 installation directory - C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2009
- Rename the folder to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya20091
- Open Windows "Add or Remove programs" software
- Find Maya 2009 entry and uninstall it.
What will happen is - Maya 2009 registry entries will be removed from Windows but the application itself will remain because the installation path was changed.
- Verify installations
- Open Maya 2009 and verify it is working
- Open Maya 6.0 and verify it is working
- Test Heroes V Map Editor Geometry and Export operations.[1]
